This learning plan is intended for IT professionals who are currently certified as MCSE in Windows 2000 Server, and who want to work towards the MCTIP Windows Server 2008 Enterprise Administrator certification.
The MCITP Enterprise Administrator certification focuses on the knowledge and skills that are required for the design and maintenance of a Windows Server 2008 infrastructure in enterprise organizations. The enterprise administrator is responsible for the overall IT environment and architecture of the network. The enterprise administrator translates business goals into technology decisions and designs mid-range to long-term strategies. Enterprise administrators also make key decisions and recommendations about the following: network infrastructure; directory services, identity management, and authentication; security policies; business continuity (disaster recovery, personnel/equipment/data); design of IT administrative structure (delegation models); best practices, standards, and SLAs.
Note: There is a significant technology gap between Windows 2000 Server and Windows Server 2008. For this reason, IT professionals who are certified as MCSE in Windows 2000 Server and want to take the upgrade exam for Windows Server 2008 (70-649) must first upgrade their certification to MCSE on Windows Server 2003.
By following the steps in this learning plan, you will have access to the learning resources that are required to earn the Microsoft Certified IT Professional (MCITP): Enterprise Administrator for Windows Server 2008. To transition from the MCSE Windows 2000 Server to the MCITP Enterprise Administrator, you must pass the following five exams: 70-292, 70-296, 70-649, 70-620 or 70-624, and 70-647.
